South Africa Is Sombre As Mandela Remains Critically ILL

Former South African President Nelson Mandela is still in critical condition and President Jacob Zuma said doctors are doing everything possible to get his condition to improve. It is the third time this year that the 94 year old South Africa’s first black President, was taken to the hospital Mr Zuma – who was joined at the hospital by the deputy leader of his ruling African National Congress (ANC) Cyril Ramaphosa – appealed for prayers for Mr Mandela and his medical team. Family and government officials visited Nelson Mandela in hospital on Monday.



 Mandela’s daughter Zenani and Defence Minister Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula were seen arriving at the Mediclinic Heart Hospital where Mandela is being treated. As his health deteriorated to “critical” condition over the weekend, his family on Monday expressed hope that he will recover steadily.

Mandela has been in hospital for a recurring lung problem since June 8. President Zuma on Sunday evening, said Mandela’s condition “had become critical” in the previous 24 hours, and on Monday he said doctors were doing everything possible to ensure his well-being and comfort.
