Archbishop Kattey kidnapped by gunmen
Most Rev Ignatius Ogboru Kattey, the Dean, ArchBishop and Bishop of Niger Delta North Anglican Communion of Nigeria, was last night kidnapped by yet to be identified gunmen in Port Harcourt, capital of Rivers State. The abduction happened at about 11.30pm Friday night. The 65 year old clergyman, along with his wife, Beatrice was captured on Aleto bridge,Eleme in Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State, but the wife was later found abandoned in their car.
Fake Soldier Batters Man Over N3k Bribe
The police at Elemoro Division, Ibeju Lekki, Lagos, southwest Nigeria, have arrested a suspected fake soldier after he battered a labourer for allegedly refusing to give him a N3,000 bribe. Fashola bars Molue from Lagos Island

Indian doctors declared Wednesday that a pair of formerly conjoined twins, born in Nigeria, were healthy and happy after they were successfully separated in a marathon “nerve-wracking” operation in India by a team of 40 specialists. The one-year-old girls, sporting matching bright pink dresses, sat patiently on their parents’ laps as doctors explained the separation last month during an 18-hour operation at a New Delhi hospital. “They were fused at their back when they came to us which is very rare,” paediatric surgeon Prashant Jain told AFP.“Usually the twins are joined in the head or the upper body. Elder statesman and Chairman of The Patriots, Prof. Ben Nwabueze (SAN), has maintained his stance against President Goodluck Jonathan contesting the 2015 presidential election, saying it will be a heroic act should he act on his advice. Nwabueze, who led other members of The Patriots to submit their memorandum on Transforming the Nation through a National Conference, to President Jonathan, said though he was eligible to contest, the president should not contest the 2015 election.
Speaking to State House correspondents after the meeting, Prof. Nwabueze while emphasizing that this was his personal position and not that of The Patriots, also urged the president to convene a national conference before 2015.

Gunmen Kill 44, Injure Many In Borno
At least 44 people have been shot dead at a mosque in north-eastern Nigeria, officials in Borno state say. Men dressed in military camouflage arrived in Konduga town on Sunday morning and shot or hacked to death dozens of people returning from morning prayers, two residents said. “They took everybody by surprise with the attack,” a military joint task force source told Reuters, asking not to be named. “They killed many people, the victims are more than 30 but I cannot confirm the exact number.”

Raped and killed
Why should a young girl suffer so much pain before she was so callously murdered? That is the question that residents of Idimeta village, Ibaragu, on the outskirts of Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, are struggling to find an answer to. Bilikisu Adeyemi, a 16-year-old groundnut hawker, was allegedly raped and then shot dead with a local gun in the community on July 31. The suspected assailant is 20-year-old Ajibawo (other names withheld by us), the son of a local hunter in the village.

Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has said it is unaware of any offer by President Goodluck Jonathan, to erstwhile Chief Security Officer, CSO, to the late Sani Abacha, Major Al-Mustapha, to join the party. An online publication reported that the President had indeed wooed Al-Mustapha, freed by an Appeal Court last month of complicity in the murder of Kudirat Abiola, wife of late MKO Abiola, to join PDP with a view to using his new-found popularity to win political support for his re-election in 2015. The medium said however that it was not clear if the Army Major would accept the offer as he did not give an immediate response.

Policemen implicated in varsity student’s killing arrested

Army arrests 42 Boko Haram members
Nigerian Army, yesterday, in Lagos, paraded 42 suspected members of Boko Haram sect arrested in their hideouts in Lagos and Ogun states. Some of the paraded suspects confessed to have killed soldiers and civilians in the northern parts of the country. They also confessed to have fled Borno State for the western part of the country following the ongoing military intervention.
29 feared dead, scores injured in Kano multiple blasts
Twenty nine fun seekers were feared dead and many injured, Monday night, in the multiple blasts that occurred at Christmas quarters in the Sabon Gari area in Kano. Patience Jonathan loses mother in auto-crash
News reports from Port Harcourt said Mrs. Iwari-Oba, the mother of the wife of Nigeria’s President Goodluck Jonathan, Patience, may have died in an auto-accident on Monday. The mother of Mrs. Jonathan was said to have been involved in a ghastly motor accident along Elele Road in Rivers State. The Punch reported that the woman, who is from Okrika Local Government Area, was on her way to Bayelsa State when the accident happened and that her corpse has been deposited in the mortuary. The report did not indicate the age of the woman.
24 killed in auto crashes, 8 injured
It was a harvest of deaths from road accidents, yesterday, as a total of 24 people perished in two separate accidents that occurred on the Lagos-Ibadan and Benin-Lagos expressways.
In the Ibadan crash, no fewer than six persons lost their lives, while eight others sustained serious injuries. Vanguard gathered that the accident involved a commercial bus with number plate OYO XE 675 LUY and a truck with number plate Lagos XX 455 GGE.

19 children die after eating school lunch in India
PATNA, India (AP) — Nineteen children have died and more are sick after eating free meals at a primary school in eastern India.
Bihar state official Amarjit Sinha says 28 children have been hospitalized in Patna, the state capital. Ten of them are in serious condition. The children are age 8 to 11.
They fell ill soon after eating meals in the school on Tuesday in Masrakh, a village 80 kilometers(50 miles) north of Patna.
