Now that the annual Children’s Day celebration has come and gone,the question of what happens to the average Nigerian child after that one day jamboree still lingers in the hearts of concerned parents and education stakeholders. As a matter of fact, it appears the Nigerian child is only celebrated once a year, May 27. Even the so-called annual ritual celebration organized by each state of the federation doesn’t really go round as it parades and favours mostly children of the high and mighty. But to children of the masses, May 27 is just like any other day.

JTF Discovers More Weapons In Hezbollah Suspect’s Residence In Kano

Joint security forces in Kano state, north-west Nigeria
says it has discovered another cooler buried under a wardrobe at the
same Lebanese house at No. 3 Gaya Road, where a large quantity of arms
and ammunition were recovered last week suspected to be that of
Hezbollah Terrorists organization.
A press statement by the JTF spokesperson, Captain Ikedichi Iweha,
said the cooler contained 80 indicators, 5 PPK pistols, 334 rounds of
7.62mm special, 9 magazines, 4 pistol silencers, hand grenades caps, 4
explosive fuses and 2 explosive device.Iweha stressed that while the house was under 24 hour JTF surveillance, the military will continue to count on the support and cooperation of the good people of Kano state. “In the effective discharge of our duty, we want to assure you of our utmost commitment in ensuring that peace and atmosphere suitable for business continue to prevail.”
Meanwhile, all effort to speak with Mr. Taher, the owner of the house and owner of the Taher Guest Palace in Kano was not successful as he told Channels Television that he has been advised on not talk to the press.
For now, Mr. Taher appeared free but probably under surveillance by security operatives.
Container truck crushes man, govt meat van

LAGOS — Tragedy struck, yesterday, along the Agege Motor Road, Ikeja, Lagos, after a container fell off a truck and landed on an Eko meat van. An unsuspecting male passer-by identified as a manager in Slot Electronics company, was reportedly crushed to death by the truck. Several persons reportedly sustained varying degrees of injuries while motorists going inward and outward Oshodi went through the most harrowing experience as they were trapped for seven hours in the resultant gridlock.

An Abia State High Court has sentenced a banker, Mr. Theophilus Ajakaiye, to death by hanging for killing his wife, Theodora. The convict allegedly murdered his wife on October 12, 2009 at Azumini Ndoki in the Ukwa Judicial Division of Abia. The charge read, “The accused person is
charged with one-count of murder contrary to Section 319 (1) of the
Criminal Code Vol. 11, Cap. 30 Laws of Eastern Nigeria, 1963, applicable

Veteran musician Fatai Rolling Dollar seriously ill
Nigeria’s oldest practicing musician, Fatai Rolling Dollar is seriously sick and in hospital. The 85 year old was rushed to the hospital by his wife more than a week ago where he still remains. Family sources say his condition was so bad that he couldn’t move his legs but is getting better.
He is presently receiving treatment at Ahmadiyya Hospital in Igbado/Ijaiye in Lagos. Fatai has asked Nigerians to remember him in their prayers.

Mako shark is possible record-breaking catch
An 11-foot-long mako shark, weighing in at 1,323.5 pounds, is no tall tale. The shark, caught off the southern California coast, was reeled in by Jason Johnston of Mesquite, Texas, and its size might be a world record. The angler made the giant catch—using chopped fish as bait—while on a charter fishing trip off Huntington Beach, Calif., on Monday.

Forbes also said Dangote is now the first African entrepreneur to lay claim to a $20 billion fortune as the stock value of his largest holding, Dangote Cement, leaped just three months after it released its annual ranking of the world’s richest people.
The report noted that Aliko Dangote’s 93 percent stake in the cement company is now worth $19.5 billion.This was in addition to his controlling stakes in other publicly-listed companies like Dangote Sugar and National Salt Company of Nigeria and his significant shareholdings in other blue-chips like Zenith Bank, UBA Group and Dangote Flour.

Train derails in Lagos

A section of a train returning from Ijoko in Lagos State to its base at Ebutte Metta, Lagos on Wednesday derailed at Agege. The incident which occurred between 11.30pm and 12.30am was said to have been caused by defective tracks As of 11am on Wednesday, the scene of the accident had been cordoned off by policemen from the Railway police.
