2015: I insist, Jonathan don’t contest –Nwabueze
Elder statesman and Chairman of The Patriots, Prof. Ben Nwabueze (SAN), has maintained his stance against President Goodluck Jonathan contesting the 2015 presidential election, saying it will be a heroic act should he act on his advice. Nwabueze, who led other members of The Patriots to submit their memorandum on Transforming the Nation through a National Conference, to President Jonathan, said though he was eligible to contest, the president should not contest the 2015 election.
Speaking to State House correspondents after the meeting, Prof. Nwabueze while emphasizing that this was his personal position and not that of The Patriots, also urged the president to convene a national conference before 2015.

Black Jesus Killed
An infamous cult leader known as “Black Jesus”, who was suspected of cannibalism, has been chopped to death in a remote Papua New Guinea village, reports said Friday. According to AFP, Steven Tari, a convicted rapist, had been on the run since escaping from a prison in Madang in the Pacific nation’s east during a mass break-out with 48 others in March.

DSS quizzes mother of stowaway teenager
BENIN CITY — OFFICIALS of the Department of State Services, DSS, in Edo State, yesterday, quizzed the mother of the 15-year-old Daniel Oikhena, who emerged from the wheel compartment of an Arik Air flight from Benin Airport to Lagos, last Saturday. Mrs Evelyn Oikhena, who confirmed her invitation to newsmen, said she was shocked when her sister-in-law in Germany called her to say that she read the incident on the internet.

Gunmen Kill 44, Injure Many In Borno
At least 44 people have been shot dead at a mosque in north-eastern Nigeria, officials in Borno state say. Men dressed in military camouflage arrived in Konduga town on Sunday morning and shot or hacked to death dozens of people returning from morning prayers, two residents said. “They took everybody by surprise with the attack,” a military joint task force source told Reuters, asking not to be named. “They killed many people, the victims are more than 30 but I cannot confirm the exact number.”

Raped and killed
Why should a young girl suffer so much pain before she was so callously murdered? That is the question that residents of Idimeta village, Ibaragu, on the outskirts of Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, are struggling to find an answer to. Bilikisu Adeyemi, a 16-year-old groundnut hawker, was allegedly raped and then shot dead with a local gun in the community on July 31. The suspected assailant is 20-year-old Ajibawo (other names withheld by us), the son of a local hunter in the village.
Jonathan to Akande: Respect your age

told the interim Chairman of the newly-registered All Progressives
Congress, Chief Bisi Akande, to respect his age. The President’s admonition was in
reaction to Akande’s description of Jonathan as an unserious-minded
person running a kindergarten government. In a statement by his Special Adviser on
Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati, the President said it was
“certainly rude, ill-mannered, uncharitable and hypocritical” for Akande
to describe him on Saturday in such an uncharitable manner.
2015: We’re unaware of Jonathan’s offer to Al-Mustapha to join party – PDP
Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has said it is unaware of any offer by President Goodluck Jonathan, to erstwhile Chief Security Officer, CSO, to the late Sani Abacha, Major Al-Mustapha, to join the party. An online publication reported that the President had indeed wooed Al-Mustapha, freed by an Appeal Court last month of complicity in the murder of Kudirat Abiola, wife of late MKO Abiola, to join PDP with a view to using his new-found popularity to win political support for his re-election in 2015. The medium said however that it was not clear if the Army Major would accept the offer as he did not give an immediate response.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has arrested one Kingsley Mudi over alleged ATM fraud. It was learnt that Mudi was caught red-handed on August 2, 2013 at Fidelity Bank ATM on Airport Road, Warri, Delta State. EFCC spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren, said 30 ATM cards of different banks were also found on him.

Governor Fashola’s Father Dies At 80
The father of the governor of Lagos state, Babatunde Fashola, Ibrahim Ademola Fashola on Monday died at the age of 80 years at an undisclosed hospital. In a statement signed by the Chief of Staff to the governor, Mr. Lanre Babalola said the remains of Elder Fashola will be buried on Tuesday, the 6th of August 2013 at Vaults and Gardens Ikoyi by 1pm.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has arrested a suspected fraudster, Wale Olaide, aka Wale Dollar, for using a fake bank credit alert to defraud a bureau de change operator, Abdulhamid Abubakar, of N5m. EFCC’s Head, Media and Publicity, Wilson
Uwujaren, said the suspect, who was an expert in defrauding
unsuspecting victims through fraudulent bank credit alerts, contacted
Abubakar’s younger brother, Hashim, also a bureau de change operator
based in Lome, Togo, that he wanted to purchase N5m equivalent in CFA.
Policemen implicated in varsity student’s killing arrested
The policemen accused of collaborating with hoodlums to kill two youths in Badagry, Lagos State, have been arrested. They were arrested on Friday, according to the police authorities.

Notorious Armed Robber Nabbed By Police
He is not an ordinary armed robber; he and his gang have been accused of killing several policemen and civilians in the south west for over a decade. His gang members call him ‘Godogodo’ meaning ‘a hefty man’ but the police say he is a notorious armed robber who has visited terror on his victims.
