A businessman, Charles Ugwu, has been killed in the Ajegunle area of Lagos, over his refusal to settle some street urchins, popularly known as area boys.

Create jobs for yourselves, govs tell corps members

The National Youth Service Corps on Thursday organised a passing out ceremony for the 2012 Batch C NYSC members across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory with  some governors advising them to deploy their energies towards nation building. They also advised them to create jobs for themselves. In Akwa Ibom State, the governor, Mr. Godswill Akpabio, advised them to continue serving the nation in whatever sector of the economy they find themselves.

A primary six pupil of Role Model School, Oregun, Ikeja, Lagos, has emerged one of the youngest pupils to obtain the Microsoft Certified Professional certificate, SAMUEL AWOYINFA reports

A nine-year-old pupil of Role Model School, Oregun, Ikeja, Lagos, Jomiloju Tunde-Oladipo, has emerged the youngest Nigerian Microsoft certified professional. He came tops among 21 pupils who sat for the professional examination in Lagos. 

Nigeria’s Unemployed Graduates Turn Kidnappers

Two unemployed university graduates have been arrested by the police over their alleged involvement in kidnapping in Lagos State, southwest Nigeria. The suspects were yesterday paraded by the police along with their accomplice for allegedly kidnapping three kids and collecting ransom from their parents. The suspects identified as Gbenga Sholaja, 31, Samson Shomorin, 29, and Olalekan Faniran Benjamin, allegedly kidnap school children by luring them with petty gifts.

Female Estate Agent Dupes 200 People

 

The police at Ojo Division have arrested a 34-year old woman estate developer, Mrs Taibat Aruna, for allegedly defrauding over 200 prospective tenants. The victims allegedly paid millions of naira to the woman for 11 self-contained apartments in two bungalows in Ojo area of Lagos State, southwest Nigeria. The victims this morning stormed Ojo Police Station, in protest and pleaded with the police to recover their money from her. Taibat allegedly collected the money from the victims and used it to build the bungalows at Alimi Street, Ira and Esa Square, both in Ojo Local Government.

Plane Carrying Agagu’s Corpse Crashes In Lagos

n Associated Airlines plane conveying the corpse of the late former governor of Ondo State, Olusegun Agagu, crashed on Thursday morning, killing at least 15 people, just minutes after taking off at the Murtala Muhammed International in Lagos, southwestern Nigeria, aviation authorities said.

Archbishop Kattey kidnapped by gunmen

Most Rev Ignatius Ogboru Kattey, the Dean, ArchBishop and Bishop of Niger Delta North Anglican Communion of Nigeria, was last night kidnapped by yet to be identified gunmen in Port Harcourt, capital of Rivers State. The abduction happened at about 11.30pm Friday night. The 65 year old clergyman, along with his wife, Beatrice was captured on Aleto bridge,Eleme in Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State, but the wife was later found abandoned in their car.

Fake Soldier Batters Man Over N3k Bribe

The police at Elemoro Division, Ibeju Lekki, Lagos, southwest Nigeria, have arrested a suspected fake soldier after he battered a labourer for allegedly refusing to give him a N3,000 bribe. The incident occurred at Hi-Tech yard, Eko Akete, Awoyaya, Ibeju Lekki. After investigation by Corporal Raymond Udoeka and his team, the suspect,  Emmanuel Joseph, 34, was charged before a Tinubu Magistrate’s court, Lagos on a five-count charge of felony to wit, assault occasioning harm, stealing and impersonation.

Maiduguri Boils Again As 14 Die In Boko Haram Clash

About 14 people have been killed in Benishiek in Kaga local government area in Maiduguri the Borno state capital, as residents clash with the radical Islamic sect, Boko Haram. According to eye witnesses, the sect members stormed the town in the midnight, taking the residents of Benishiek unawares, the residents in turn decided to face the sect members and a shoot-out which lasted for several hours ensued between the parties,leaving 11 residents dead and several others injured by the sect members. 

Fashola bars Molue from Lagos Island

The Lagos State Government has barred big commercial buses, popularly called Molue, from operating on Lagos Island. The government explained that it also did not expect the buses to ply  Third Mainland, Eko and Carter bridges, adding that operating in the Central Business District had become history for the buses. A statement from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority on Thursday said the move was to ensure adequate monitoring of the operations of commercial vehicles and compliance with traffic rules and regulations.

Indian doctors separate Nigeria’s conjoined twins

Indian doctors declared Wednesday that a pair of formerly conjoined twins, born in Nigeria, were healthy and happy after they were successfully separated in a marathon “nerve-wracking” operation in India by a team of 40 specialists. The one-year-old girls, sporting matching bright pink dresses, sat patiently on their parents’ laps as doctors explained the separation last month during an 18-hour operation at a New Delhi hospital. “They were fused at their back when they came to us which is very rare,” paediatric surgeon Prashant Jain told AFP.“Usually the twins are joined in the head or the upper body. It posed a huge challenge to our team of doctors,” Jain said.
